The popularity of the Android™ phones is constantly increasing and the mobile phone industry is leaving no stones unturned to make the maximum utilization of this operating system. The latest to join the league is Samsung, which has announced an Android™ handset called I5801 Galaxy Apollo. However, it is not the first device by the company to run this operating system as Samsung i9000 Galaxy S is already creating quite a buzz in the market. Earlier, it was the Bada-powered Samsung-s8500-wave that was generating good excitement among the mobile buyers and now with the Galaxy S and Galaxy Apollo, the users have a better choice to make.

Samsung has not disclosed much about the features of this new kid in the block called i5801 Galaxy. As of now, we only know that the mobile phone includes excellent touch screen display and virtual QWERTY keypad along with rich social networking and multimedia experience.

In terms of looks, Galaxy Apollo looks different from the other versions of the Android™ smart phones by Samsung that are available in the market. It looks simple yet beautiful and with the elegant shape, it appears better than the older versions of Galaxy models (Spica I5700 and I7500). Under the 3-inch TFT capacitive touch screen display, you can find the four touch, sensitive keys and the five-directional D-pad. The curvy borders make the design even more attractive. On the side panel, there are power button, volume rocker, 3.5 mm headphone jack and port for microUSB. The major highlights of the display include multi touch input method, proximity sensor for auto turn off, and accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate. The very beautiful Samsung Galaxy Apollo I5801 will be made available in two shades – black and white.

Functionality & Interface

I5801 Galaxy Apollo includes several pre-installed apps and TouchWiz 3.0 which is the customized user interface. The menu displayed on the screen-top can be used for controlling GPS, Bluetooth, Wi Fi along with accessing the unread messages and the missed calls. The home screen of the device comes with multiple pages. At the bottom of the screen, the four touch sensitive buttons can be used for accessing the phone contacts, messages, main menu and dialing menu. The main menu can be further divided into different pages. One of the best pre-installed applications of the mobile phone is Social Network Service where you can coordinate your contacts with appropriate information from different social networks. You can also update the status of your social network differently from the phone, and hence it will definitely attract many young buyers.

Network & connectivity

No matter what excellent features are loaded in a mobile phone, the efficiency of network and connectivity cannot be ignored to judge the overall performance of a device. Samsung Galaxy I5801 can support both 2G and 3G networks. The users of the 2G network will get access to the quad band GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900, while the users of 3G can enjoy the power of the dual band HSDPA 2100/ 900. The browsing speed of Internet over the mobile phone is reasonably good as the user can browse at the speed of 3.6 mbps by HSDPA connectivity. Other than that, there is a good support of Wi-Fi® 802.11 b/g/n. With the availability of Bluetooth® v3.0 and microUSB, data can be exchanged with compatible devices.

Galaxy Apollo is a smart phone and hence it is enriched with some excellent features. It integrates the document viewer that includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF. Other than that, there are Google applications such as Google maps, Google Search, GTalk, and Gmail along with integrated social networks and YouTube™. These entire applications require good storage capacity to function smoothly without any memory shortage. Therefore, Samsung Galaxy Apollo I5801 comes with a good memory support. The memory of the mobile phone can be expanded up to 32 GB by using the microSD™ card slot. At the time of purchase, 1GB of memory card will be provided to the buyers. The internal memory capacity of Galaxy Apollo is 170 MB and it is capable of storing practically unlimited phone book entries and call records.

Camera is another vital feature that any buyer takes into consideration before purchasing a mobile phone. In a feature-rich device like Galaxy Apollo I5801, it is even more essential to have a good camera option. However, the camera of the handset may not be the best among the other camera-specific mobile phones, but it definitely includes a decent one.
