HTC Legend Review

If we take a look at the most popular Android phone of 2009, it will be HTC Hero for sure. This year, in the Mobile World Congress 2010, HTC has announced the follow-up handset of Hero, and it is named as HTC Legend. Designed with a single aluminum block, the Legend resembles HTC Google Nexus One and it is definitely lighter and smaller than the Hero. There are some complaints of lack of signal and call drops in the iPhone, but HTC Legend seems to have overcome this issue by not interfering with the metal body with signal. There is no framing or separate body part of HTC Legend as it is made up of a single metal piece. Therefore, the downscale and upscale can be done smoothly. HTC Legend guarantees faster usage with its upgraded Sense UI. All the other HTC Sense aspects seem to be identical, but it is definitely much faster in the Legend.

HTC Legend has come up with a wide range of new features. Some of the top new features of the mobile phone include Friend Stream that assembles all the messages of contacts across Flickr, Twitter, and Facebook™ in a single list. Posting comments, message replies and tweets are all possible by using the application. Calendar is another vital inclusion that will let you know about the future events and meeting in a single stream. The Helicopter View features probably the best in the HTC Legend. You can see the contents of all the home screens by pinching in them. Tap the home screen that you want to see and the device will open the application for you.

The network and connectivity

A good network support is essential in every mobile phone, whether it is a smart phone like HTC Legend or a general entry level handset. The body of the phone is made of a single metal, but it won’t affect the network coverage. The aerial is not placed deep inside the metal body, rather it is a part of the battery door. Therefore, uninterrupted network is guaranteed with the handset. HTC Legend is supportive of both 2G and 3G networks. The users of the 2G networks will get the support of the quad band GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900; while the users of 3G will get support of the dual band HSDPA 900/ 2100. Just like the good network feature, good connectivity option is also essential. The browsing speed is quite fast as the users can access the 3G HSDPA at 7.2 mbps and also Wi Fi 802.11 b/g. Apart from that, there are class 10 GPRS with 32 – 48 kbps speed and EDGE with 236.8 kbps speed. For transferring date to/from other compatible handsets, you can use miniUSB v2.0 or wireless transfer via Bluetooth® v2.1.

The display and the look

As already said, HTC Legend is made up of a single block of aluminum, it has it own appeal. This factor also separates the device from other mobile phones like Sony Ericsson Aspen, Samsung S8500 Wave, etc. The one-metal form of the Legend makes it smaller and lighter than the Hero. The measurement of Legend is 112 x 56.3 x 11.5 mm, and it weighs 126 grams. Therefore, it seems like that HTC Legend is an easily-pocketable mobile phone that can be conveniently carried anywhere. Now, let’s check out the look of the mobile phone. The entire frontal portion of the handset features the wide touch screen display, except from the bottom portion where you can find the optical trackball. The type of the display is very impressive in the Legend. It includes 3.2 inches AMOLED capacitive touch screen with 16 million colours and 320 x 480 pixels. Some of the major highlights of the display includes accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate, multi touch support, and Sense UI.

The memory

The features of HTC Legend look quite attractive, and it has included several new applications to drive the interest of the users. These applications can only with a good memory storage capacity. HTC Legend also excels in terms of memory. The internal memory of the mobile phone comes with a 348 MB RAM and 512 MP ROM. This internal memory is enough to store unlimited entries of call records and phone book entries and fields. However, only the support of good internal memory is not enough and therefore, the company has featured the expandable memory option with microSD™ card. The memory of HTC Legend can be expanded up to 16 GB.

When all the other features seem to be very attractive, there is a good expectation from the camera of the mobile phone.
